A woman in the eastern Pakistani city has been arrested for forcing her 11-year-old daughter to marry a man in his 40s.

Muhammad Niaz, resident of the thickly populated Ghorey Shah neighbourhood here called police yesterday and complained that his wife Tasleem Kausar was trying to forcibly marry their daughter Farzana with a neighbour.

"The girl is reluctant to marry but her mother is insisting on the marriage. She has threatened to expel Farzana from the house," Niaz said.

He said he had been without work for several weeks following which his wife decided to "sell" their daughter.

Police arrested Tasleem while the prospective groom managed to escape.

A case was registered against the woman under provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Two murdered in separate incidents - DAWN.com

ATTOCK, Aug 25: Two persons were killed in separate incidents in the district.

Police said here on Friday that Raja Sherdil resident of Keenal village of New airport Police station, Fateh Jang, was allegedly attacked by his rival Muhammad Imran, resident of the same village with a 12 bore gun and escaped from the scene on Thursday evening.

As a result, the victim died on the spot.  The motive behind the said murder incident was an old enmity among the deceased and the accused.

Previously, a young man was stabbed to death by a villager over a minor dispute at Kamalpur Musa village of Rangu Police station.

Police said that Muhammad Suhail resident of Kamalpur Musa  village had reported to Rangu Police station that he along with his friend Muhammad Niaz were standing in a village street, when Muhammad  Waqas  suddenly arrived at the scene.

He later allegedly attacked Mr Niaz with a sharp knife and fled the scene.

As a result, Niaz sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Hazro but did not survive.

Earlier hard words had been exchanged with the deceased over a personal dispute.

Separate murder cases were registered against the alleged killers by the respective police stations.
